The Idea Behind Light to Fire

How We Got Here:

We love living in the beautiful woods of Central Oregon. However, every year in April and May, we find ourselves raking mountains of pine needles from the forest floor, loading them in trucks and trailers, and hauling them to the local land fill where they are ultimately burned under close supervision. Cleaning and clearing our forests of this highly flammable debris is necessary in order to help reduce the risk from wildfires. The idea for Light To Fire came to us after thinking about how cool it would be if we could create something useful with all these needles instead of hauling them away to the dump! For years we have used pine needles to light fires in our outdoor firepit, so the idea of creating firestarters out of pine needles became a mission. We wanted our fire-starting products to be as safe, easy and effective as possible, so we included an easy light wick. This makes it as simple to ignite as lighting a candle while producing no fly-away burning embers like you get with paper or kindling, and no noxious vapors or gases from accelerants, all while keeping the flame contained and concentrated. Not to mention the fun shapes always make starting a fire more interesting, plus they make great gifts! We use a custom blend of soy and beeswax with an assortment of pine needles we harvest by hand. We truly hope you love our Firestarters as much as we have enjoyed the journey they have put us on! Please Contact Us if you have any further questions, comments or inspirations!
